The Nevada and Photographic Portal
This page provides some of the most useful links on the web referring to both Nevada and the Eastern Sierra. The information found on these websites is invaluable and if you liked Sierra Life, don't be surprised if you find yourself coming back to these quite often. We strive on our visitors coming back each year and local agencies built these sites to reach out to the rest of the world. I've asked them and they've asked me to post these links so you, the visitor, can learn more about our little bit of paradise.

Nevada's Historical Markers
- Beginning in late 2007, I deciding to break from my business photo schedule to seek out and catalogue all of Nevada's 266 State Historic Markers. Why? Call it a labor of love for history!
-
Forgotten Nevada
- Ever heard Ramsey? Seven Troughs? Pine Grove? How about National? C'mon, Pamlico has to ring a bell, or maybe Bolivia, La Plata, or Hamilton. If you've never heard of these ghost towns, that's probably because there's little left to find out. These and many other old mining camps are almost gone from history due to the sad sands of time. Fortunately, two guys, Bob and Luis, have gone out of their way to access, photograph, document and wonderfully record such lost places before it's too late. Although it relates really nothing to photography, this sight is A MUST SEE if you are a true ghost towner, or lover of history. It's also a Nevada-Landmarks.com buddy site!

The Sierra Web
- The Official Website of the Eastern Sierra.
Great site to use as a gateway for accessing various information if you're new to browsing the area. Also a gateway for other Eastern Sierra sites. One of my gateways.
-
Mammoth Web
- Your Mammoth Lakes portal, providing information primarily about the Mammoth/June area, including ski info and fishing and snow reports. Includes a very helpful Mammoth Lakes phone directory and online yellow pages. One of my gateways.
-
Mono Lake & the Mono Basin
- One of my favorite websites!... This is the official website of the Mono Lake Committee, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Mono Lake and its basin. I highly recommend this site for its detailed and interesting facts to learn more about Mono Lake and its history, including various wildlife found area the area and birdwatching hotspots. Highly recommended for everybody. One of my gateways.
-
Owens Valley Committee
- Official website of the Owens Valley Committee, another non-profit agency to preserving the Owens Valley from urbanization and progress in its ongoing habitat restoration. The ever going re-watering of the Owens River remains at the top of their list along with retaining land rights from
the city of Los Angeles. Wonderful organization who can provide you with some nice photographic locations in the Owens Valley.
-
Owens Valley History
- Not about photography, but highly recommended to learn more about the history of the Owens Valley. This website goes into great detail about old ghost towns and the proud heritage found in every square mile from Bishop to Olancha, including the High Sierra. A guy could easily spend a few hours here. A friend to Sierra Life. Tell Ray I said Hi.
-
Bodie
- A fine portal for Bodie State Historic Park. Provides a handful of other Bodie links and insight to some new programs and workshops for photographers. Happy viewing.
-
Eastern Sierra Portal
- "On the Web, Beyond the Highway, Art, Adventure and Nature in the Eastern Sierra" is Karen's site. Here you can find fishing, hiking, photographic and artistic adventures found in the region with many resources and references. Well built site. One of my gateways.
-
See before you buy
- A sort-of "Consumer Reports for Photography". One of my favorite websites and much needed for someone who is always on the watch for the latest equipment. You can view forums and read-up on some personal opinions and experiences from people who have bought and used equipment from scanners, to cameras, to tripods, to anything relating to photography. Look, review, research and learn before you even fork over a penny. A wonderful resource!
-
B&H Photo
- THE place to go to buy photographic equipment. B&H is based in New York City and offers new and used equipment for very reasonable prices. This is the store where the pros go and recommend. Well, why not for the beginner as well? Try B&H once, and you'll fall in love with their great service and products.
