Ordering FAQ

How fast do you ship? What is the shipping time on my order?
Very fast! I check my orders everyday. When I receive your confirmation, your order will automatically go through processing. Before sending anything out, I make sure all your order and shipping information are correct prior to shipping. I won't ship the print or stock file until payment has been received, unless you've worked out a special payment option and I have agreed to it. Afterwards, expect the print to be in your hands within 3-5 days. If you'd like it to be shipped overnight, no problem. I use USPS Express Mail for this and standard rates for Express Mail will apply for overnight mailing.

I am well known for my great shipping prices. No matter what size prints you order, the prices are only related to price range. (I.E: As long as a print's price, regardless of matting/framing, falls within $0.01 to 100.00, it is ALWAYS $6.00). I run my shipping this way to save my customers valuable money. The rates listed below are ALWAYS STANDARD, regardless of weight and the location being shipped within the U.S. Here is the price list below for 2009!

Shipping Prices (2009)
  $0.01 - 100.00   100.01 - 200.00 200.01 - 300.00 300.01 and up
$6.00 $9.00 $12.00 $15.00
All shipping is done via Priority USPS.
Contact me if you'd like faster shipping or through another carrier.
(Standard shipping rates will apply if done through another carrier)
** Although optional, if you'd like to purchase Insurance,
I ask that you contact me immediately after placing your order. **
** Sierra Life DOES NOT CHARGE A HANDLING FEE **

If you see a print you'd like to purchase at my venue but would like to pay with a credit card, please let me know on-site and I will hold your print until you can pay via this website.

What if I bounce a check?
Please don't... I charge a fee of $30 for every bounced check you write to me.

Do you offer any refunds or exchanges?
I stand behind the quality of my work. As a result, any cosmetically flawed or damaged prints will be exchanged without question. If you receive your print in poor or damaged condition, simply mail it back to me within 10 days of receiving it and you'll receive another free of charge. Replacements will usually be mailed within 7 days. I offer a 1 year free guarantee and "warranty" on my prints, therefore giving you an outstanding advantage. Within that year, if the quality of your print deteriorates or begins to fade, you'll receive another absolutely free. In other words, your satisfaction is guaranteed.

What types of mattes and framing do you offer?
All Sierra Life customers are given the opportunity to select the matte color and frame color to complement their photo. I believe that nothing brings out a photograph better than its matte... it gives the space needed for the viewer to "reflect" on the photo. Most mattes of choice are chosen in various white shades, but many of my images look fantastic with various colored mattes in shades as ivory, navajo white, swiss coffee or gray tones. The matting options I offer also come in accent, black core and decorative matboards in both the standard cardboard option and cotton 'RagMats'. Contact me to discuss available matting options, or you can visit my
[    Processes    ] to view in my detail about my matting options. As for the frame; the frame accents the entire piece and "finishes" the collection. Through many hours of configuring of my prints in various frame styles and finishes, I've found that standard black frames look the best with any of my pieces. As a result, if you order a Sierra Life framed print, it will arrive with a standard black wood frame, with a width of no more than 2".

Do you have Limited Edition Prints?
Yes, very few. Look for that camera icon you see above within my galleries! Out of my vast collection of prints, only ten or so are available in, 18x24 matted & framed limited edition prints (LEP's). These prints are numbered and signed limited editions of various quantities from 50 - 200 and once these prints reach their limit, all printing will cease for that particular image. Current availability on my LEP's are listed within my galleries. Unless otherwise stated, the price of all my LEP's are listed below...

Limited Edition Print $200
All LEP prints are 12x16 & sold in 18x24 frame size

Licensing Images
What are the terms necessary for licensing one of your images?

Terms Of Usage
I have several options for my buyers regarding my stock photography. Before I go into them, I must point out a few disclaimers and notes of importance, although mine are very basic in comparison to most photographers.

  • All of the images here on Sierra Life are available for purchase or licensing.
  • When ordering through "stock order", images can be used more than once.
  • At least one photo credit must be provided with the licensed image, something along the lines of "Photo © www.sierralifephotography.com" or "Photo courtesy of Sierra Life Photography/Paul Sebesta".
  • All images must be linked back to "http://www.sierralifephotography.com".
  • And last, I do offer trades. If you have something that I can use, or am interested in, in exchange for an image simply email me. Although it doesn't happen very often, you still never know.

One feature I am proud to offer is granting usage for non-profit organizations. I will gladly offer FREE digital usage for any non-profit agency such as CalTrout, Mono Lake Committee, or any organization that benefits the environment without taking in profit for gain. All of the images found on Sierra Life are available for stock usage unless otherwise posted. I also give discounts if you license 5 or more images at a time.

Stock Prices & Info
My stock photos are sold in various sizes depending on page size.

Stock Price Image Size   Page Size
$50 3x5" to 5x8" 1/4 to 1/2 page
$80 6x9" to 8.5x11" 3/4 to 1 page
$100 8.5x11" to 11x18" 1 page & larger

  • 1/4 page (3x5) to 1/2 page size...
  • 3/4 page (6x9) to a full page (8.5x11)...
  • For images larger than a full page to 11x18, expect them to be around $100 even, regardless of how big I go. I will not provide images larger than 11x18.
These resizes are carefully done so they do not lose quality from the original TIF scan at 4000dpi. Each one is compressed to 300dpi and delivered at JPG compression Level 10 which should give great output quality to any printer. Let me know what your project is, and I will help you set up an image size that would be suitable for your needs.

What is the difference between a web usage and regular stock photography?
Let me just start by saying, I really don't have a problem with people using my photos. Hence why, it's so easy to simply right click on a photo on the web and click "Save as". Everybody does it, so really it's no problem. Student use or any non-profit purpose (such as school reports, or research papers) get free usage. Just let me know what photo you'd like to use via email. You will have a fee if you are a business and want to use one of my photos for any profitable reason of income.

"Web Usage" says exactly what it is. This service is offered to my customers if they are looking to license an image for use over the web. If that's all they need it for, and/or are watching their pennies, this is probably their best choice. "Web Usage" licensing is half the price of a regular stock photo, but is limited to use over the web only. Also, any image ordered through "web usage" can only be used once and only once. Buyers do not get granted the permission to print, publish or sell the image in any way. All you get with "web usage" is a JPG file at around 200-400K (or a common Level 10 compression on a standard JPG file) as it appears on my site, emailed to you without the watermark.

My customers who license an image through stock photography ("stock order") can use the image in whatever form he/she desires, whether it be for publication, distribution, conferencing, web use or other uses. Also, stock photos aren't limited to one-time use only... they can be used multiple times. Stock photos can be printed or published, making them handier than "web usage" files. Licensed images are mailed to you on CD-ROM, allowing you a little more control in what you want to do with the file and when you want to use it. "Stock Order" is a great choice almost any time, especially with the flexibility and options you get compared to a "web usage".

Any other questions about ordering or pricing, feel free to email me. I've had many clients who've negotiated payment and ordering options with me, so it all works out for the both of us. Contact me with any of these things.
